In November 2011 David Brown, representing the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP), and Carol Brownlee, representing Swindon Walcot and Parks Community Group, were invited to the South West Seniors Forum conference in Taunton.

They decided that nothing like this was going on in Swindon, so they came back to Swindon and decided to set up something along similar lines.

They identified and contacted groups and organisations that might be interested in such a forum and it was decided that the initial objective of the forum was to be a voice for older people at local and national levels.

The forum was subsequently established in 2011 as “Swindon Older People's Forum” (SOPF).

David stepped down as Chair in 2014 and passed away in 2015. Carol remains a committee member.
